About the author
마리오 푸조
헬스 키친이라 불리는 뉴욕 맨해튼 서부의 빈민가에서 태어났다. 고교시절에 소설 습작을 시작했지만 졸업 후 아버지와 뉴욕 중앙 철도 회사에 들어가 제2차 세계대전이 발발하자 입대하여 독일에서 복무하였고, 제대 후 원호법의 지원을 받아 뉴욕 시립대학에 진학하였다. 저서로는 '어둠의 투기장the dark arena', '행운의 순례자The fortunate pilgrim' 등이 있으며 ,1969년 '대부The godfather'를 출간하면서 미국 최고 인기 작가 리스트에 올랐다. 아카데미 각본 수상 작품으로는 '바보들 죽다Fools Die', '시칠리안The Sicilian', '마지막 돈The last don', '오메르타Omerta' 등이 있다. 1999년 심장마비로 사망하였다.
