Plot is interesting and adventurous but takes too long to get to the point. Main character's father is a selfish man who would rather see his daughter die than to do whatever he needs to save her life. The ending was a let down and it felt rushed. Would not recommended this book to romance enthusiasts, it's more of an adventure story with two stubborn main characters who don't know what they want.

A pleasant book but I felt as if a chunk was missing at the end. With all the intenseness of their journey through the jungle then no news of her fathers reaction to her being taken from his care. Or what happened to the other co conspirator. They said that he had gone but didn't say whether it was from death or he had left because everything had changed. It ended with a bit of a fizzle.

For once, there was just as much growth in the male love interest as in the female protagonist, if not more, which I loved. I also loved the fact that Linley, brought up everywhere but in England, has such a different worldview compared to all the people she encounters on her return to England. Things that matter to them simply don't to her, which means her behaviour and speech resonate with a modern audience without seeming too anachronistic. Some of the key moments of the book stretched my suspension of disbelief a little more than I might have liked, but I quite easily put them aside to cheer on our couple. Oh, what they endure! And the backdrop they endure it against! Do yourself a favour and let yourself be surprised by this book. Would recommend!
