When materials engineer Zoey Butler lands her dream job at Future State Energy, she believes her research in renewable energy will make headlines. Unfortunately for her, she’s right. Zoey is working on her latest experiment when FBI Special Agent Alexis Thompson and her K-9 partner, Waffle, raid Future State and arrest the head of the development for fraud. Zoey helps the FBI find answers in the aftermath, but she soon finds herself jobless and unemployable. Desperate and out of options, she reaches out to Alexis, the one person who knows Zoey was duped like everyone else.

Liam Graham is an FBI special agent and instructor at Riverbend K-9 Academy. When Alexis brings in a new recruit with an unusual background, Liam pairs her up with Tasha, a dog in need of a handler to stay in their competitive program. Zoey is thrilled to put her past behind her and give the mischievous rescue dog her own second chance. However, shortly after she arrives, the FBI realizes the Future State case is far from closed. And Zoey may be the key to solving it.

Zoey offers to go back to Future State to help the FBI end things once and for all. Only this time, she’ll have Liam and Tasha for backup. But, the problems at Future State are more explosive than any of them suspect.

These books are standalones but the introduction of characters and spoilers makes reading them in order better but not necessary. Clean. No vulgar language or cursing. No sex. No graphic violence or injuries. Source for all books: BookSprout. A Nose for Mischief, #1 - Pleasantly surprised how good this story is and the good characters, both two- and four-legged, are likeable and believable. Easy to read with interesting story lines and a touch of romance made a quick read. 4* An Ear For Trouble, #2 - This is an interesting, easy to read story with a consistent pace, good characters, interesting story lines and plenty of animals. I like the author's writing style and the dialog of the characters and the humor spread throughout the pages. 4* A Whisper of Suspicion, #3 - Interesting story especially with the major topic. It is good how each featured fostered puppy has different talents in each book. A good mix of intrigue, zoolife and romance at a good pace made this a quick and easy

K-9 and FBI Action Mystery What an exciting start to a new series. Our main character is a female materials engineer. Her main sidekick is a scent detection dog in training. There is a clean romance along the edges and lots of intrigue. Wonderful dogs and believable science fills in the gaps. This author has a smooth method of writing that just lets the story flow. I have read a couple of her other novels and am actively trying to read all of her books. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

K.T Lee's "A Nose for Mischief" is the first book of the Riverbend K-9s series, and boy has she started the series on a pawfect note (see what I did there?)! Leave it to this talented author to present an exciting premise centred around second chances, perseverance and hope. Zoey is a multi-faceted and talented character who picks herself up after her career takes a hit. Liam is all about his career until Hurricane Zoey arrives and sweeps him off his feet. It was wonderful to reunite with Alexis and Matt from the previous series, and their scenes brought a smile to my face. In a beautiful contortion, K.T Lee infuses STEM, banter, suspense, and romance. Once I picked up this book, it wasn't easy to keep it down. As a dog lover, reading the interactions between gorgeous Tasha and Tank was the cherry on the top. A 5 star read! I can't wait for the second book and read Elise's story! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, and this honest review is left voluntarily.
