Jess and Michael connect over a discussion about the Unbearable Lightness of Being and slowly fall in love in the spring just before the end of their Senior year when Jess can no longer contain herself and expresses her abuse to her closest relatives and friends. This fallout sets the stage for disaster as she travels to Spain and dissociates from everything she knew. Adding to her struggles is her moms refusal to see the truth forcing Jess to live out of Michaels car. Drawn thin and left to hang as Michael prepares for college, Jess attempts suicide. It is in the hospital Jess comes to terms with her suffering and how to endure in the face of lost hope.

Jessica Reed lives in Seattle, Washington, with her cat, Luna. She enjoys running, kayaking, and knitting. When she’s not writing, she is working her way toward a BA in mathematics for teaching at the University of Washington. She currently works as a tutor for underserved children in the Seattle area.
