About this eBook

When Justice Protects the Guilty...

The law is meant to shield the innocent—but what happens when the chief of police is hiding a dark secret of his own?

Social worker Billy Jo McCabe is approached by an anonymous woman with a disturbing claim: an unspeakable crime is being concealed by none other than Police Chief Tolly Shephard, and the victim is his own niece, Cheyenne Potter. Billy Jo turns to Detective Mark Friessen, but without a clear victim, he’s torn—until they start uncovering unsettling clues that suggest Tolly has been covering up far more than anyone realized.

As they dig deeper into Tolly’s web of secrets, they soon find themselves up against people who manipulate the law for their own gain. Every answer uncovers another chilling question, and Mark and Billy Jo must tread carefully. In this high-stakes game, crossing the wrong line could lead them into a battle they’re not sure they can win.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorhainne Eckhart, Above the Law is a gripping mystery where the lines between justice and corruption blur—and not everyone makes it out unscathed.

Once more, the author delivers not only a very engaging but one that is thought provoking. Billy Jo McCabe, a social worker, and Mark Friessen, a detective in a department that is filled with secrets, join forces to unravel the secrets that the police chief is keeping. As they deal with the complicated situation, the relationship between Billy Jo and Mark starts to solidify. The author brings to the forefront , the reality of the existence of not only police corruption in some sections of the country, and of those in powerful positions, but also the inequality that women in the workforce still encouter in the 21st century. Let us not forget the other very real issue our society sadly still encounters, domestic abuse of young girls, even in the homes of those wealthy. Something that will affect them for the rest of their lives. This was another excellent story in a series that gets better and better with each new book. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Billy Jo and Mark see themselves involved in a whirlwind of deceit, lies, and crime and are asked to keep everything under wraps as it involves rich families and important figures with national exposure. At the same time, Mark gets under his boss´s bad feelings as he does take action against his brother's bad behavior. A fast-paced story with strong feelings almost exploding and some romance. Very entertaining and easy to read! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
