Nyala’s having a heck of a time recovering from last semester’s events. She’s missing her best friend Briar and things became way too complicated when her boyfriend decided to cheat on her. Yeah, she caught him in the act.

She’s also got a secret. One she’s not willing to share with anyone.

When her ex starts to harass her and a new guy appears to the rescue, she finds herself confused.

Jack’s on a mission. It’s a very secret mission. One he can’t share with anyone. Unfortunately, the mission didn’t involve catching feelings for Nyala. And yet… here he is. Now if only he can see the mission through without anyone ending up dead.

Fallacy

Nyala and Jack are on the run and trying to escape an unfamiliar, desolate landscape. Jack is sick and coughing up blood. Nyala tries to care for him, but he pushes her away. Despite the danger and uncertainty of their situation, Nyala remains determined to stay with Jack and help him through their predicament.

Jack uses his magic to protect them and keep the beasts at bay, but the effort takes a toll on him. Nyala is shaken and Jack is filled with guilt for dragging her into their dangerous situation. Despite their fear and exhaustion, they keep moving and try to find a way out of the strange world they are trapped in.

Meanwhile, Jack remembers his father saying Nyala was a keeper. He hopes she is, but there was no telling how she’ll react once she knows everything.

Would she look at him the same way once she realizes what his plans were? He was only a thief for now. But soon enough, there’d be blood on his hands. Not even Nyala would be enough to sway his mind from finishing what his brother started.

No one would be.

Legacy

Jack is in a state of despair and frustration as the Dagger of Vitality, the only way to lift his curse, is gone. He is plagued by the pain and death sentence that the curse has put on him, and the thought of not being able to lift it is overwhelming. He's convinced that Erikson is the one who has taken the dagger and destroyed it. He's determined to take her down with him before the curse kills him.

Nyala, Briar, Luke, and Zach are shocked and confused by the recent events and the power Erikson seems to possess. They're trying to make sense of how the dagger was destroyed and how Erikson could have been involved. They're determined to find another way to lift the curse, but Jack is consumed by his need for revenge. Nyala, in particular, is trying to be a voice of hope and optimism, insisting that they will find another way to lift the curse, but Jack is not ready to hear that. He's consumed by his anger and need for revenge.

As Jack's fire continues to grow and pulse around him, his friends are trying to understand the extent of Erikson's power and her role in the destruction of the dagger. They're worried about the consequences of Jack's quest for revenge and the impact it could have on all of them.
