This is beautiful Malayalam translation of Khalil Gibrans' novel 'Al-Ajniha Al-Mutakassirah' originally published in Arabic, in 1912 and translated into English  in 1957 with the title 'Broken wings'. Lyrical and dynamic, free from the rhetorical flourishes common in traditional Middle Eastern literature its beautiful prose replete with evocative imagery and philosophical insight. Broken Wings  in its surface is a tale of tragic love, set in turn-of-the-century Beirut. It touches a variety of subjects like love, plight of women, hypocrisy of self serving religious heads, false values on which human societies are built, and true prayer and sacrifice. It  is a compelling commentary on the condition of women in the Middle Eastern societies of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Gibran's evocative narration paints pictures with words. The book is compared to 'Gitagovindha' of Jayadeva and also mystic poems of Al-Farid in which the  lovers  represent the the Soul and Supreme Soul.
