Advances in Lipid Research, Volume 21 covers several significant and emerging areas in lipid metabolism, including apolipoprotein metabolism and leukotrienes. This book discusses the role of fat in the functioning of the immune system. Organized into eight chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the metabolism of apolipoprotein B, which is the principal protein of chylomicrons, very low density, and low density lipoprotein. This text then describes the metabolism, biosynthesis, and pharmacology of leukotrienes. Other chapters consider the relation of lipids to immunology and explain the roles played by lipids in the structure and function of yeast membrane. This book discusses as well the general importance in the plant kingdom and the place of some carotenoids in human biology. The final chapter deals with the influence of proteins on configuration and function of reconstituted lipid membranes.
