A briefmotiva tionforthebookisgivenbelow. Thestudyofpubliceconomicshasexperiencedanumber of dramatic changes during the past two decades. These changes have revolutionized, in a fundamental way, the subjectofpublic economics. The theoretical research in public economics has contributedtothedevelopmentofnew instrumentsand ap proaches to tackle problemsofeconomic policy in a more effectivemanner.
