About this eBook

The novels of Iain M. Banks have forever changed the face of modern science fiction. With breathtaking imagination and extraordinary storytelling, they have secured his reputation as one of the most extraordinary and influential writers in the genre.

'Banks is a phenomenon'
William Gibson

Lady Sharrow was once the fearless leader of a combat team in one of the sporadic little commercial wars in the vicinity of the planet Golter. Now she is hunted by the Huhsz - a religious cult hellbent on assassinating her - and her only hope of escape is to find the last of the apocalyptically powerful Lazy Guns before the Huhsz track her down.

Her journey through the exotic Golterian system is a destructive and savage odyssey into her past, and that of her family and of the system itself.

A wonderfully imaginative story, full of action and unexpected turns. Kind of long, for my taste, but it reads well and the details in the universe are the right amount to sustain the story. Will need to check to see if more was written on this with the same characters.

This is my favourite SciFi book. It contains all the things that Iain can do so well with a great a great story and amazing characters. The world in which they live is fantastic which helps to keep the plot building. And to finish, a great punch in the face twist. Iain at his best.

It's a big book, but I've re-read it many times. It just has the trick of lighting up my imagination.
