Let's get the obvious out the way first: certain aspects of this novel have aged poorly. The treatment of the South African people and imperialism is very much Of Its Time i.e. egregiously racist. If this is an aspect of Christie's novels you find uncomfortable, this may not be the book for you. But if you can look beyond this, this is an immensely charming and well-realised example of its genre, which is not so much a mystery as an adventure-romance. The plot has holes, but you care little for them when it moves with such well-judged pace. Anne is a wonderful protagonist, and while the other characters could be described as stock figures, this familiarity actually increased my enjoyment of the novel, as it felt so much like going on an adventure with old friends. The 'mystery' is easily worked out by a reader familiar with Christie, but is really second in the novel to the romance, which surprised me with how much it moved me. Will definitely be rereading soon!

This one is my favorite book of all the series. With just one paper, Miss Christie weaves the whole story into something very big and creates a perfect ending. Must read book

Possibly my favourite Agatha Christie. Holes in the plotlines as big as the grand canyon but who cares! Like hot buttered toast on a wet afternoon. Aa guilty pleasure.
