Agnes Grey

Anne Bronte, the author, was born on January 17, 1820 at Thornton, Yorkshire, England, and died on May 28, 1849 at Scarborough, Yorkshire. She was an English poet and novelist. Her sisters Charlotte and Emily Bronte both were poets and novelist. Anne Bronte’s pseudonym was Acton Bell. She wrote ‘Agnes Grey’ and ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’.

‘Agnes Grey’ is the debut novel of Anne novel of Anee Bronte. It’s a victorian novel. The story revolves around the center character, Agnes Grey who works as a governess within the families of the English gentry. Actually. Anne (the author) had also worked as a governess for almost 5-years. So she has put all her experiences in the novel. How she actually suffered and, in general, how actually it all affected a young woman. She has focussed on empathy in the story, not only with the human beings but also with the animals.

Agnes Grey marries Mr. Weston at last. But after many ups and downs in their life. Her mother also did love marriage against her family wishes. Due to huge financial problem in the family, Agnes starts working as a governess. But the family where she works always finds fault with Agne’s work. More so, that family has already spoiled their children. So, not getting any support from that family, she comes back to home.

After leaving this family, she starts working with a new family. There she meets Mr. Weston, Their friendship starts growing up her. A time comes, when Mr. Weston leaves that area, without any known reason. Here Agne’s father becomes serious, but when she reaches her father dies, and she is not able to see her father alive. Her heart breaks and she opens a small school along with her mother. Although Agnes suffers lonliness but she uses this opportunity for self-study and personal development. After sometime, Mr. Weston meets Agnes and they married. Above all a happy ending. How the story actually moves ahead? How Agnes be unsuccessful as a governess?
