The communal aspect of the divine call to create is evident in the story of Bezalel and Oholiab. While each of these men had been individually chosen and gifted by God, they worked together, alongside a community of other craftsmen, to build the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle itself, a place of worship and encounter with the divine, was not the work of one person but the result of collective effort, each person contributing their unique skills and talents for the common good. In the same way, the work of the artist today—whether in a church, in a studio, or in a community project—should be viewed as part of a larger, ongoing work that involves the entire body of Christ. Artists are called to contribute to the Church’s mission of making disciples, promoting justice, and restoring beauty in a world marred by sin.
