Summary of Little Fires Everywhere - A Comprehensive Summary

CHAPTER 1

The first chapter of the book serves as an introduction into the book. We are introduced to the town of Shaker Heights, which will be where the story will revolve. The beginning of the book is also marked by the fact that many of the town’s residents are talking about a girl named Mirabelle McCullough, and the question of who could be responsible for burning her family home.
The author describes this as chaotic. As the fire trucks arrive, we see Mrs. Richardson standing outside, while watching the fire. She left before the fire started. Mrs. Richardson did not look for her daughter Izzy. She suspected that she was responsible for the fire.
The fire is put out and the home is not entirely destroyed by the fire. One of Mrs. Richardson’s daughters, Lexie, had just returned from her friend’s home. The last night she spent at her friend’s place, talking about little Mirabelle. Lexie is together with her brothers Trip and Moody. They all feel that Izzy will be in a lot of trouble when she returns, because their mother suspects that she is responsible for the fire. However, Izzy is nowhere to be found.
