I recently read the e book version of it. I watched the movie version first (1970's one). I think the book is much better. It is both mysterious and dark but magical at the same time. The book is well written and definitely draws one in. It is rather expressive and some of the symbolism might be a little too much for some people. It is a good piece of writing though and I would read it again.

About the author

Alexander Key started his career as an artist, studying at the Chicago Art Institute. He then pursued a successful career as an illustrator of children's books, which soon led him to write his own. Key is the author of many popular science fiction stories for children, including The Forgotten Door, The Golden Enemy, and The Incredible Tide.
