Hearts in the Sand When I first read this, I’d done it a little bit backwards by reading the first book in the series before the prequel, but I don’t think it matters. We learn about Gwydion and Min and how they fit into Kirby’s story, as well as having the chance to see a much lighter-hearted Kirby than the incarnation we will meet once the series gets rolling. However, no part of this scorching hot little book changes the fact that I’m dying to get my hands on the next one. It might even have
Carol 27
This is an imaginative and very entertaining urban fantasy series with a thought-provoking premise – young adults trained as assassins to eliminate those individuals who’ve been prophesized to kill certain Norse gods. Kirby is unaware of her past – in particular her past lives as a Valkyrie. As a young cadet, she believes she’s finally found her place at T.O.M., where she excels in her training despite the harsh and brutal methods. How will she react when her memories are fully restored and she realizes that those closest to her are guilty of deceit and manipulation? ... I really enjoyed this series! Kirby is an incredible character – intelligent, fierce, brave, and loyal. I enjoyed her often complicated relationships with Starkad, Min and Gwydion – immortals she’s known and loved in her previous incarnations. This is a well written tale with complex characters, several twists I hadn’t anticipated, plenty of magic, action, adventure, drama, angst conflict, violence and treachery along with several steamy, explicit encounters featuring F/F, M/F and/or ménage scenes, plus some elements of BDSM as well. The story is told through multiple POV’s and the occasional use of flashbacks. I received a free copy of this boxed set from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
