About the author
Alphonse Daudet (Nîmes, 1840 - Paris, 1897) passe une enfance pauvre, mais heureuse, en Provence. Il part à Paris où il travail pour plusieurs journaux et devient célèbre grâce à son ouvrage "Les Lettres de mon moulin" (1869). Il publie ensuite de nombreux romans comiques (les aventures prodigieuses de Tartarin et de Tarascon, 1872) ou réaliste (Le Nabab, 1878). Il aime montrer la réalité tel qu'elle est, mais avec sensibilité. Selon ses propres paroles son art est "un singulier mélange de fantaisie et de réalité".
