Natürlich war niemand begeistert, als ich auftauchte und mich durch die umherstehenden Männer drängte. Nur dem Toten war's egal. Der betrachtete ohne Hingabe das kleine Stückchen hartgetrockneten Lehmboden vor seiner Nasenspitze und hatte alles weltliche weit hinter sich gelassen. Hier auf dem Land, wo keiner dem anderen ein Leid antat, glaubte man an das Gute und hielt vor allen Dingen den Mund, wie ich schnell merkte. Es war nur ein kleiner ländlicher Unfall mit Todesfolge, wie man mich glauben machen wollte. Tragisch? Ja, aber das Leben geht weiter, wenn man nicht weiter nachfragt. Nicht weiter schlimm, Schwamm drüber. So hätten die lieben Landleute sich das wohl gewünscht. Dumm war die Tat, dummdreist und verschlagen die Täter.
