About this ebook

How far would you go to protect your darkest secrets?

When teenager Sadie Winter jumps from the roof of her school, her death is ruled as suicide – a final devastating act from a troubled girl. But then the broken body of a young boy is discovered at the same school and it’s clear to Detective Kim Stone that these deaths are not tragic accidents.

As Kim and her team begin to unravel a dark web of secrets, one of the teachers could hold the key to the truth. Yet just as she is about to break her silence, she is found dead.

With more children’s lives at risk, Kim has to consider the unthinkable - whether a fellow pupil could be responsible for the murders. Investigating the psychology of children that kill brings the detective into contact with her former adversary, Dr Alex Thorne – the sociopath who has made it her life’s work to destroy Kim.

Desperate to catch the killer, Kim finds a link between the recent murders and an initiation prank that happened at the school decades earlier. But saving these innocent lives comes at a cost – and one of Kim’s own might pay the ultimate price.

The utterly addictive new crime thriller from the Number One bestselling author – you will be gripped until the final shocking twist.

Dying Truth by Angela Marsons is the eighth book in DI Kim Stone series. DI Kim Stone and DS Bryant are heading back to headquarters when they get a call to the exclusive Heathcrest Academy where a student is on the roof. By the time they arrive, Sadie Winters is dead. It looks like a suicide until Kim notices details that are inconsistent with that ruling. Despite pressure from above to quickly close the case, Kim and her team question the students and teachers. Kim is surprised when one of the teachers is Joanna Wade (who likes to flirt with Kim). Kim gets a call from Joanna to meet, but she arrives too late. Someone got to Joanna before she could talk with Kim. DS Kevin Dawson connects with Geoffrey Piggott, a student who is similar to Dawson at that age. Geoffrey provides a key clue to what is happening at this privileged school. An old tradition has been kept alive and what is happening in the present is connected to a past death. Kim and her team race to stop another death, but it will come with a great sacrifice. Dying Truth is another great installment in the DI Kim Stone series. The novels in this series build upon each other. You need to start with Silent Scream and work your way up to Dying Truth. I thought the book was well-written with complex characters. The characters continue to evolve as the series progresses. I enjoyed getting to know more about DS Kevin Dawson. I did find the pace a little slow in the beginning of the book, but it picks up as you get into it. As the mystery develops, the suspense amps up and the pace picks up. I will say that I was not immediately drawn into Dying Truth as I have been with the other novels in this series. It took me a couple of chapters to get thoroughly into Dying Truth. The mystery is multifaceted. There are several parts (layers) to it and it can be challenging to figure out all the details (I love a twisty mystery). I have to admit to some tears at the end (I wish I could say more, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone). I am giving Dying Truth 4 out of 5 stars. Dying Truth is an intense suspense novel that will have you up very late to find out it turns out. I am eager for the next adventure with DI Kim Stone.

I can just see most reviews for this book will be starting with something along the line of 'Wow, Where do I start' only worded better. I truly don't know what to say, How can you better your last 7 books when those 7 were fantastic reads. I don't just mean improve the next one a little bit. Somehow Angela Marsons manages smash the last brillientness of the book and better it ten fold. Angela I don't know how the hell you do it, but please, keep on doing it. The tension, the atmosphere, the build up, everything about this book was just Spot on. I feel like I've been on one hell of a ride with this story. The nail biting is that intense, these books should come with a free manicure. So Dying Truth. We are off again with some familiar faces, character we have been getting to know over 8 books. Characters that have really grown and feel as though they have become real friends. I have to start with Kim Stone. Now I don't know what it is about this character but I love reading about her. The familiarity while reading is almost like it's someone you personally know. The book kicks off with Stone and Bryant attending an emergency at a school, where 13 year old Sadie Winter has jumped off the roof of her school. How could such a young girl have such problems that she feels the only answer is to kill herself? Everything seems to point to suicide. Only Detective Inspector Kim Stone, has other thoughts and once she gets something in her head, there is no changing her mind. It's not long after that another child is found dead. Kim Stone is certain that these are not suicide attempts or just accidents, Kim know's in her mind that these deaths are connected. I really did look forward to each time I got the chance to pick up this book. A first class read that I feel will be difficult to top. Yet I have no doubt it will be topped. It's going to be damn interesting to see where Angela Marsons takes this series. This is easiest the best book of the series, but i'm sure I keep saying that each time a new one comes out. This has certainly gone onto my 2018 MUST READ list.

I’ve read and reviewed three Kim Stone books and loved every one of them. But I think this one is my favorite. Read in one sitting, I won’t rehash the plot but I will mention what I liked about the book. Firstly, Marson’s research into the mindset of these teenagers is very revealing. Glittering careers compromised by bullying and exclusion, the author has captured the harrowing pain teenagers face. I sensed danger at the mention of a secret society, especially one dating back several years. You can’t help but detest the twisted superiority of the privileged. Heathcrest Academy is no stranger to bullying and gets my vote for an exotic setting, where a crime such as a ‘suicide’ must remain confidential so as not to cause a scandal. Kim, however, is in disagreement. The reputation of a private boarding school is not worth protecting. The children, on the other hand, are. I’ve always enjoyed her stoic attitude and larger than life image. She’s a hero you can’t help rooting for and her interaction between Bryant, Dawson and Stacey always has me in stitches. I can ‘see’ them all so clearly. I related well to Geoffrey Piggott; his fears and his way of dealing with life. But what I loved the most was his faith in the face of danger and the ‘true’ hero in his life. So have a hanky handy. The end was totally unexpected. Thank you to the author for writing such a wonderful book. I would also like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for receiving a copy. This is an honest review.
