About this ebook

George Orwell’s celebrated novella, Animal Farm, is a biting, allegorical, political satire on totalitarianism in general and Stalinism in particular. One of the most famous works in modern English literature, it is a telling comment on Soviet Russia under Stalin’s brutal dictatorship based on a cult of personality which was enforced through a reign of terror. The book tells a seemingly simple story of farm animals who rebel against their master in the hope of stopping their exploitation at the hand of humans and creating a society where animals would be equal, free and happy. Ultimately, however, the rebellion is betrayed and the farm ends up in a state as bad as it was before. The novel thus demonstrates how easily good intentions can be subverted into tyranny.Orwell has himself said that it was the first book in which he had tried, with full consciousness of what he was doing, ‘to fuse political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole.’ The book was first published in England in 1945, and has since then remained a favourite with readers all over the world, and has consistently been included in all prestigious bestseller lists for the past many years.

Watered down 1984. It lacks a lot of subtly, and is extremely in your face about what the pigs are doing ot the rest of the farm. I understand it's established that the animals are all stupid with symbolism to match it, but for an average reader goig through it's extremely obvious to the point of being frustrating. While the writing itself is quite nice with plenty of symbolism and metaphors it needs more subtlety like 1984 instead of being so blatantly obvious. Don't necessairly recomend the book. Read 1984/10

I read this book along with the others written by Mr Orwell back in Junior HS. Reading it as an ebook will be a new experience for me as I have never read an "ebook" before. I do recommend all the books written by George Orwell as they are extremely well written and are timeless and relevant in today's world.

About the author

George Orwell was the nom de plume of Eric Arthur Blair (1903–1950), an English author and journalist whose best-known works include the dystopian novel 1984, Down and Out in Paris and London, Homage to Catalonia, etc., amongst others. He is consistently ranked among the best English writers of the 20th century, and his writing has had a huge, lasting influence on contemporary culture. Several of his coined words have since entered the English language, and the word ‘Orwellian’ is now used to describe totalitarian or authoritarian social practices.
