About this ebook

I chose stasis—a long sleep—for me and two of mine. Hard to time these things, but we woke in the eye of a cyclone.

When I went to sleep—to avoid being drained of magic and blood by dark SorcerersVampires weren’t exactly on the endangered species list, but not many of us are left. No one ever accepted us. Not mortals and not others with power, either. At least one of those dams has developed a few cracks. Supernaturals aren’t quite welcoming, but they’ll take help from any quarter.

Mortals have declared war on magic, and they won’t rest until we’re all sitting in iron-clad prisons. What a bunch of cowards. If they weren’t hiding behind false humanitarian walls, they’d be honest about their intentions and kill us outright if they could.

The world turned into an alien place while I slept. Not much point returning to my clan house in Italy. It’s probably long since disbanded. Besides, fate tossed me squarely in Ariana’s path. She’s like me, a Vampire, but I hunger for her in a very un-Vampirelike way.

She’s done her damnedest to chase me away, but I’m tough to dissuade. She doesn’t know it, but I won’t back off until she’s mine.

No matter what it takes.

I'm loving this series. The world-building is fantastic, and now the humans and Supernaturals are on the verge of war. All the characters we meet in this story are terrific with some kickass women. I've always loved stories with "good" vampires in them, especially when they have more layers to their past that have made them what they are in the present. The author gives us confused vampires, hidden deadly secrets, many twist and turns, instant desires, surprises and I'm giving a little spoiler, nothing that gives real details, but I really like stories where animals are not only one of the main characters but are able to communicate. I do recommend this book to all lovers of the paranormal genre; you will not be disappointed. I'm really excited to read the next book in the series. In case I didn't mention it, I LOVED this book.

(4.5) This new series by Ann Gimpel is rocking! She puts her own spin on the paranormal and everything is new and fresh. Book 2 immediately pics up where 1 left off. I mean immediately, I would recommend reading book 1 first, not just for the enjoyment but to see how things have evolved. There is a lot of action, lust (after all vampires don't feel, or have emotions, or do they?), turmoil and cataclysm (hee hee). There are nefarious two timing Sorcerers and witches, evil human beings and more. I want to know what really is going on with Guardians and I am so torn with Conan wanting happiness for him. We saw more of Clive in this book and I like the vampire he is becoming. I love, love, love strong Ariana, her humor, her honesty with herself and her willingness to see other sides. I like watching Nickolas grow and become "more than" vampire and cannot wait for book 3. Thank you Ann for the opportunity to grab this arc. I recommend this to anyone who is for a wild ride in urban fantasy lane, and even if its not your norm genre, give it a shot. All thoughts and opinions are my own and I freely volunteer them!

About the author

Ann Gimpel is a USA Today bestselling author. A lifelong aficionado of the unusual, she began writing speculative fiction a few years ago. Since then her short fiction has appeared in several webzines and anthologies. Her longer books run the gamut from urban fantasy to paranormal romance. Once upon a time, she nurtured clients. Now she nurtures dark, gritty fantasy stories that push hard against reality. When she’s not writing, she’s in the backcountry getting down and dirty with her camera. She’s published over 75 books to date, with several more planned for 2020 and beyond. A husband, grown children, grandchildren, and wolf hybrids round out her family.
