Unusual YA drama involving two main characters, Vale and Slate. ( three main characters but the third, Crawford, was never developed.) Vale and Slate were likeable and relatable for me. Slate and Vale's families were also enjoyable characters; Crawford's mother wasn't. The story was good, not great. Then came the second half! Totally unexpected and not necessary. A three star read became 2 1/2 stars. Voluntarily read ARC for honest review.

I was very hesitant to read this book after reading a few comments on how people disliked part 2, but if you love a good love story with very unexpected twists, this is definitely the story for you. I fell in love with both Vale & Slate very early on and was excited to read their story... I kept finding myself either grinning at my tablet as I read or wiping my tears away. It's a beautiful story of finding yourself and not changing who you are to be with someone or to be loved. The right person will love you just as you are, will look past everything you've done in the past and still see the beauty of your heart. I wished part 2 had a bit more "body" to it, to link it better with part 1 so that the reader could see the clear links and perhaps understand why everything happened as it did in part 1. My assumption is part 1 is the story Slate told Vale during that month... The description of the book is very misleading though, as I'm still waiting for Crawford to wake up?
