லட்சுமி நிலையாக எங்கும் தங்கி இருக்க மாட்டாள். அவள் நிரந்தரமாகத் தங்கி இருக்க என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று அவளிடமே கேட்டான் இந்திரன். “சத்தியம், தானம், விரதம், தவம், தருமம், பராக்ரமம் ஆகியவற்றிலே நான் குடி கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். என்னை நான்காகப் பிரித்து வழிபடு. அப்பொழுது நான் உன்னை விட்டு நீங்காமல் இருப்பேன்” என்றாள்.
இதைக் கேட்ட இந்திரன், அனைத்தையும் தாங்கும் பூமியிலும், உயிர் காக்கும் நீரிலும், வேள்விக்குரிய அக்னியிலும், உண்மையே பேசும் மனிதர்களிடமும் லட்சுமி தேவியை நான்கு பாகமாக்கி நிலைபெறச் செய்தான்.
ஆனால், லட்சுமியை நிரந்தரமாக பாகம் பிரித்து வைத்த இந்திரனைவிட்டு, அவள் நீங்க வேண்டிய சமயம் வந்தது. அதுவே ஆதிலட்சுமியின் கதை.
