Es bezeichnet vielmehr eine theologisch-hermeneutische Grundperspektive für jede Predigtpraxis, die vom Gedanken eines auf die Menschen aufmerksamen Gottes her konzipiert ist. Von dort aus werden mögliche Konsequenzen für das pastorale Selbstverständnis, den Gottesdienst und die Gemeindewirklichkeit entwickelt. Das Buch gibt eine Orientierung für die Predigtpraxis in gesellschaftlich relevanter Ausrichtung und in Perspektive einer 'öffentlichen Kirche'.
