Beauty Beneath the FAT was very inspirational. If you desire to be the best version of yourself, reading this book can help you get there. The author, Dorcas Chandler begins with explaining the importance of FACING yourself: good, bad and ugly. Facing yourself is all about self-examination, changing what needs to be changed, and embracing the good in you. The second part of the book, ACCEPTING yourself is all about self-love. Before you can love others, you have to love yourself. Jesus said we must love our neighbor as our self. This seems easy, but Ms. Chandler expressed her difficulty in loving herself because of childhood challenges, which meant her love for others was out of balance. She talks about how this is a lifelong lesson for her. Her honesty about the challenges she faces with seeing the beauty beneath the FAT helped me realize that I can face my own life's challenges though my faith in God. She reminds us in this book that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" by God Himself - He does not make mistakes. We can walk in our beauty. The last part o the book TRANSFORMING ourselves is a beautiful reminder of two things: 1) as long as I have breath in my body, I can grow, learn, be a better person; and 2) We need each other. No man is an island - we are a community and family. We truly need each other to survive. I love this book. God has a message for everyone in this one book. Dorcas Chandler put the words on paper, but God used her to send you and me a message about his love for us. He doesn't give up on us, and we must not give up on ourselves nor each other. God Bless you as you read this book.

This book inspired me to do a self evaluation. 1Thess. 5:23 lets us know God wants us to be whole...Spirit, Soul and Body and the author bought out so many great nuggets to help. We need to be committed, accountable and persistent, and we must have a change of mind. This a great book to read. Hopefully, you will be as blessed as it was for me. I had the opportunity to witness some of Dorcas' journey and I can affirm she was focused and even though some days were challenging, she remained steadfast. I will use the contents of this book and the help of the Holy Spirit as my guide in my transformation. Vernelle McMichael

I’m writing this review on behalf of my 97 year old father who is also a decorated WWII Veteran. I originally bought the book for my mom, and my dad happened to pick it up. He read the book in its entirety in a day. He said, “Lezlie, that book was excellent! It taught me to first look at the man in the mirror!” My Dad is a very proud and stoic man. It takes a lot to get him excited. This book did and deeply touched his 97 year old heart.
