Yellama is a Goddess which has a large following in Maharashtra. The cult of Yeallama has a tradition (now out laws) of in which a boy or a girl is offered to the Goddess. He lives almost as an outcaste or an untouchable. The novel brings out effectively the life of a small world of socially condemned people.
