About this ebook

Gone. . . but not forgotten?

Amy loved everything about her mom: her smile, her smell, her gentle laugh. On the day her mom died, it felt as though the sun went dark. Her dad bought a house with wheels and they started moving, but no matter how many new places they went, the sun never came back out.

At least, not until Mary showed up and handed Amy a box of Froot Loops.

Amy loved Mary from the very first day—almost as much as her dad did.

Amy began calling Mary "Mom" shortly after the wedding without a second thought. After all, Mary cared for her, taught her, and loved her, all the things that moms do. But when her mom’s sister comes to visit, Aunt Anica has plenty of questions.

And now, Amy does too.

Does loving Mary mean Amy doesn't love her real mom? Or is there somehow room for all the love Amy feels in her heart?

This is a novella set in the Almost a Billionaire series. It's a bit different from the other books in the series because it isn't a romance. It centers on Luke's daughter Amy from book one. I thought it was a sweet, inspirational story. I enjoyed getting into Amy's head and seeing how her 7 year old self saw things. I also thought the author did a good job of showing how a child would think and feel in the situations that were presented in the story. I know some things that happened in the story were inspired by real life, namely the chickens, and I think I liked that part of the book the best. I also liked how Amy dealt with the school bully. It was also nice to have the wedding of Trudy and Paul from book 3 added in there. I'm looking forward to reading the next (and I think the last?) book in the series.

After Amy’s mom died, she served as stand-in mom for her little brother, even though she was barely old enough to go to school. When Mary enters her life Amy is reminded how it feels to have a real mom…until her birth mom’s sister, Aunt Anica, shows up and expresses her disapproval for Amy calling Mary “Mom.” Confused, Amy begins to wonder whose daughter she really is. Should she be faithful to the memory of her loving mom Elizabeth, who died tragically? Or should she embrace Mary as her true mother? With a little help from a teacher, a neighbor, and a chicken named Hope, Amy explores her identity and learns just how deeply she is loved. This sweet, poignant story is so endearing and so meaningful. A thoughtful reminder that grief affects everyone differently but that there is hope after the storm.

I loved getting a little background into the thoughts and experiences of Amy. I hope to see more of what happens to Anica (fingers crossed that the next book is about her!)

About the author

Bridget won her first writing contest in first grade with a story about a day in the life of a little spot of air. (Who says you need a good hook?)

She hasn't stopped writing (or talking) since then, although she was briefly derailed by her pursuit of a legal career. Ultimately, boring words, well, bored her. She quit her job to spend less time counting gobs of ill gotten gains, and more time writing stories.

She loves her husband and all five of her kids (most days). She has a yappy dog and a bouncy dog, three goofy horses, a demanding cat, two lion's head rabbits, and more chickens than she cares to admit. (Chicken math is REAL!) Every day is a battle between playing with kids, riding her horse Leo, and writing. If her publication speed has slowed down, you can blame the kids and the horse.

She makes cookies all the time, and thinks they should have their own food group. In a possibly misguided attempt at balancing the scales between overconsumption and exertion, she kickboxes every day. So if you don't like her kids, her cookies, or her books, maybe don't tell her in person.
