Meet Willa Knox, a woman who stands braced against a world which seems to hold little mercy for her and her family - or their old, crumbling house, falling down around them. Willa's two grown-up children, a new-born grandchild, and her ailing father-in-law have all moved in at a time when life seems at its most precarious. But when Willa discovers that a pioneering female scientist lived on the same street in the 1800s, could this historical connection be enough to save their home from ruin? And can Willa, despite the odds, keep her family together?

Delves us into the repeated now of needing a new narrative when new facts demand that we change how we live in the world. Kingsolver - as always - holds the light up just high enough for us to make our connections and make our own reflections. This time on the ecological/behavioural crisis we're needing a new narrative for.

Another wonderful story from Kingsolver. I love the way the two stories dovetail together, and how she sees the parallels between the 19th century and 21st struggles to bring ideas to the light.

Another novel full of profound insights where you can lose yourself: family, generations, science, history, it's all there
