Die aktuellen öffentlichen Debatten zeigen, wie explosiv die Wechselwirkung zwischen Religion und Geschlecht sein kann. Im vorliegenden Band wird dieser Wechselwirkung anhand von Überblickstexten und Fallstudien nachgegangen. Die Beiträge basieren auf dem religionswissenschaftlichen Symposium »Opening Pandora's Box: Sex, Power & Religion« und gehen auf eine studentische Initiative wissenschaftlicher Beschäftigung mit dem Themenkomplex Gender und Religion zurück. Dabei wird die Genderperspektive diskursiv verstanden. Die Beiträge bieten je eigene Definitionen von Gender und Religion und öffnen somit verschiedene Blickwinkel auf diese aufschlussreiche Interrelation. The controversary of the interrelations between religion and gender becomes evident within recent public debates. These interrelations are pursued through the overviews and case studies in this volume. All contributions originate from the symposium "Opening Pandora's Box: Sex, Power & Religion" in Munich and trace back to an initiative by students to academically engage with the topic of gender and religion. On doing so, the gendered perspective is a discursive one. Therefore, each article presents its own definition of gender and religion and hence opens the floor to diverse points of view on these eye-opening interrelations.

Benedikt Bauer ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Reformation und Neuere Kirchengeschichte der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Mystik und Critical Men's Studies in Religion.
