I love this series. Big and sprawling telling the life story of "King" Arthur through the eyes of his right hand man. This second story starts where The Winter King ends and while some see this as the filler to join the ends up is a great character as well as events lead tour details force. This book takes you into the dark ages world where a few good men struggle to forge a world at peace amid the hatred and brutality of waring nations and pety tribal as well as religious hatred. Utterly brilliant.

Bought this book on my husband's phone on holiday. Had already read the first and third Arthur book and was still enthralled by this one. Love Arthur and Derfel's friendship and enjoy Alfred and Uhtred in the Warlord chronicles. Derfel and Uhtred can be ruthless to some people but equally loyal to those they love and serve.

I am addicted to everything he writes but it took me a few chapters to get into the mythological story....by the end I wanted more!
