About this ebook

WINNER OF FOURTEEN EISNER AWARDS When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters have created their own peaceful and secret society within an exclusive luxury apartment building called Fabletown. But when Snow White's party-girl sister, Rose Red, is apparently murdered, it is up to Fabletown's sheriff, a reformed and pardoned Big Bad Wolf, to determine if the killer is Bluebeard, Rose's ex-lover and notorious wife killer, or Jack, her current live-in boyfriend and former beanstalk-climber. Collects FABLES #1-5.

I have been taking a break from superhero comics for a while, I have been an avid reader since childhood but they have become as awful as the films these days... This is a more than welcome break from the norm, excellent writing, humorous dialogue and fantastic characterisation lead to a world I keep coming back to time and again. I wish I could get the opportunity to thank the creators.

This is probably my all time favourite comic series. It takes your favourite well-known (and some forgotten) fairytale characters and places them in modern day New York. Having escaped their respected homelands several centuries prior, these "fables" live in a community together, survivors/escapees of "The Adversary" who had been conquering, destroying, and enslaving everything in his wake. However, running a community of immortal magic users isn't one big fairytale... The series only gets better.

With all the Grimm's fairy tale reboots, this one somehow stands out. The characters are interesting and the superhuman aspects are handled with a gritty edge that somehow isn't stale. The writing is strong, if the art is kind of meh... The video game is more visually interesting, but the writing and concepts are good enough to earn the stars.
