Let's be honest, this one felt the weakest in both romance and world-building. Mikar and Diana met when she was a fledging, but when they meet again they never speak more than two sentences to each other before falling in love. Sure, one could argue that fated mates need not any communication; but if I'm comparing to previous books, fated mates had conversations, they spend some time together before they realized they were mates. This pairing didn't have any of that. By far the most disappointed I've been after reading a book from this series.
