Much more graphic and intense than the film, but that's not necessarily a good thing. The social commentary is a bit more detailed which was nice to dive into. However, the some of the violence reads like something an edgy teen would have written in their murder-fantasy journal. Can't say I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't discourage someone from reading it if they're curious how it compares to the movie.

I think that (from a girls point of view) that this book is well written. I don't think at Ellis should have gotten all the crap he did. It is well written and that you can fallow it very well. The descriptions, the fear, the terror. It kept me at the edge of my seat and I could feel myself becoming Patrick Batemen. It is a great page turner, I love this book. It is one of my favorites! The movie doesn't come close, but Christian Bale almost captures Patrick Batemen. Great book!

The inner monologue writing style was interesting, but all-in-all, this was a pretty painful read. Comes across as a nonsensical, gratuitous snuff novel. I feel that the point of the novel could have been made even if the very intensely gory and pornographic scenes were toned down. It was on my reading bucket list, but I don't think I could ever be convinced to read it a second time.
