I was looking for a good step by step guide on how to become more assertive. A lot of books on the topic talk about the psychology behind a lack of assertiveness, which is not helpful to those who understand the root of a lack of assertiveness but want to get to the next step of being more assertive. I was happy to see this book was the how-to book I was looking for. I liked this flow of this book. Most helpful is the chapter on the script to use (DESO) to confront someone. The earlier chapters lead up to this script by explaining and using examples of assertive vs aggressive, passive, and passive-aggressive behavior.

This book is wonderful! after getting burned a few time I became very aggressive in my attempts to express my needs. I had a difficult time finding the right balance. This book helped me find equilibrium within myself. I learned how to properly communicate my needs not from an emotional standpoint, but one with clear direction and goals. Definitely a book to add to your toolbox of life skills. Thank you!

This is an excellent, eye opening book on making concrete changes to become more assertive in all aspects of your life. Too many of us fail to create boundaries in our lives, and this book clearly teaches how to do that. I really enjoyed the author's tone, which is one of acceptance and understanding. We all have ways that we can grow, and this book addresses many of those with tons of real world, actionable examples.
