De cette alliance explosive naissent des groupes emblématiques comme Metallica, Exodus, Anthrax, Testament, et, bien sûr, Slayer. Dès lors, Tom Araya, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman et Dave Lombardo alignent avec succès des albums aux morceaux controversés, cocktails de satanisme et de tueurs en série, de guerre et de religion, notamment le fameux « Angel of Death », figure de proue du célébrissime Reign in Blood, influence majeure du death et du black metal.
