I really like Lucy and I understand her need to control her life and her need to stay safe and not connect to any one. I love Derrick and his need to take care of his pack and his need to settle and grow roots. I really did enjoy this story. There was a lot of repetitive statements about his need to settle. I was a little confused about his mom and her pack nit overall I did love this book. I love the way he and Lucy immediately connect but he is still.so patient with her. I look forward to more books about this group. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The level of profanity in this book surprised me. I don’t like swearing in books and wish authors would warn if their books have a lot of profanity in the blurb so I can simply skip it. Multiple s-words in the prologue… that and the F-bomb in the subsequent first chapter. And from the heroine. No thanks! The pacing was off, too. In this quick-read novella, the author wastes valuable early chapters on things that don’t matter or could be quickly dealt with without slowing the book's momentum.

The main characters are Alpha Dire Wolf shifter Derrick Rand, who has been looking for a home for his small pack, and Lucy Corwyn, a hybrid feline shifter, who moves from town to town as it isn’t safe being a hybrid shifter around any of the predatory shifter packs. That is just asking for trouble. Derrick managed to find a piece of land on the outskirts of the small town of Blue Valley, New Jersey and that is where he runs into his fated mate, Lucy. But she isn't interested, due to her past.
