I'm being hard on this book but it was a real slog to get through 800 pages without a compelling plot to hold the story together. Nothing in the book from the characters to the plot to the setting feels like it has any weight to it. You simply don't care what happens next.

A gripping alternative history about life after the war. Scarily believable account of Britain if Hitler's Nazis had won the war.

A re imagining of Britain following the start of World War II. Well worth reading.
About the author
C. J. Sansom was educated at Birmingham University, where he took a BA and then a PhD in history. After working in a variety of jobs, he retrained as a solicitor and practised in Sussex until becoming a full-time writer. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Edinburgh in 2023. Sansom was the bestselling author of the critically acclaimed Shardlake series, as well as Winter in Madrid and Dominion.
