This is the 2nd book in the captivating " Bullard's Battle" series. Ballard was still missing and two of his team, Ryland and Garret, were still recovering from their injuries, the words whispered into Cain's ear "you're next" resulted in Cain and fellow team member Eton Durham going dark in Switzerland to gather intel and work out a strategy, someone wanted to wipe out Bullard's security team and they were good, who were they and why ? The intel took them to a small town in Sicily, they booked in to a small B&B run by meek Pedro and his waspy, bitchy wife Migi, they were helped by their scientist niece Petra who paid them to look after her father who had been senile since a car accident. The atmosphere in the town was strange with an undercurrent of danger. They had killed Chico but they needed to search his house for clues, Petra proved helpful in their search but what they found was to shock them all. The body count was escalating, they needed to take out this team before took them out, they needed to find Bullard. A gentle love blossomed between Petra and Cain and he would protect her with his life, they used all their resources and friends in high places. This story is action packed, people are not who they seem, it is full of surprises, it has murder, kidnapping, intimidation, police corruption to name but a few, this is a real page turner. Cain and Eton are searching for answers to who caused a plane to crash in the ocean. Clues lead them to Italy and a small town with its own secrets. It is a standalone romance and a page turner but is so much better when read in the series. Warning -- many twists and turns. Bravo! I loveeeee this easy-to-read page-turner suspense romance, in fact this one is my favorite from this series so far. Murder in every corner, family affair, crazy small-town, bad people everywhere, yup so many bad things happened, but then there's sparks between Cain and Petra that added the sweetness and brings the warmness. The camaraderie between Bullard's team and Ice definitely my favorite, I loveeee the team work, I just love when these teams support each others and always readily lend a hand when somebody needs help. So yes, overall I really really love it. Great story, loveable wonderful characters, great actions, I'm absolutely recommended for a light suspense romance readers.
