Stone Cold Cyborg

This was a quick(ish) read and I must say that I really enjoyed it. When Captain Dante Stone and his crew get sent on a mission to Verda Omega to save the New Utopians who are under attack they arrive to find the majority of the people slaughtered. He sends his first officer down to the planet to lead the rescue efforts. They bring the remaining souls on board and quarantine them, mostly due to the fact that it is a war ship and they cannot have civilians wondering around. When something draws Dante down to go and meet the survivors he comes across Miranda and her robotic dog, Sparky, thinks that Dante is threatening Miranda Sparky bites him. Because of this Dante orders her to power Sparky down. Only not all the survivors are what they appear to be and Sparky may be the only one who can tell the difference. I really enjoyed how Dante rediscovered his emotions around Miranda. It is a sweet story with characters that are really enjoyable. Super short read, the perfect fit for a lunchtime read! Dante wasn't always a cyborg but he no longer remembers what it was like to have emotions. Well, that was true until a certain archivist awakened them! Miranda was one of the refugees from an overrun pacifist planet. She is worried when she learns that refugees are going missing and highlights the worry to Dante. Add in a supercute but terrifyingly protective robodog and you have yourself a winning SciFi shorter length story. Plenty of action and shapeshifting baddies abound! My only gripe was I wanted a longer story lol!

3.5 This was a pretty quick read, perfect for those on a lunch break. I would have much preferred more story, it just felt rushed. So if you are after something you can sink your teeth into this won't be it. The characters were good and the addition of the 'dog' was cute.
