Who Killed Obnoxious Harold ? . . . Bernie and her ghostly grandmother headed over to Deputy Adam Gallagher’s condominium to attempt to find his ghost. This was their 4th attempt and Ruby was taunting and insulting the ghost in an attempt to make it show itself. Bernie wasn’t sure she would be able to “see” the ghost since she hadn’t been able to see Ruby until she was hit by lightning and knocked out cold. Ruby has to remain within 15 feet of Bernie if they are not at the B&B, so Ruby called for her to move further into the condo so she could search the bedrooms. Bernie thought this was a waste of time, but it allowed her to spend time with Adam, so she was happy to keep visiting him. Adam had the next day off and invited her for an ATV ride. With a final insult to the ghost, a book flew off the bookshelf, aimed at Ruby, and hit Bernie in the forehead. Then a male voice apologized to her since the book was supposed to hit her mouthy grandmother. So who was this ghost and why was he here? Bernie rented an ATV from Jack, the owner, who told Adam he might see them since he was having a Jeep Tour near the cliffs during the full moon. Bernie and Adam rode into the desert as the moon came out. Ruby pointed to two people on the cliff above. They were ready to leave when Ruby pointed again to the ledge where two figures were fighting this time, one of them finally being pushed off to plunge to the bottom of the canyon below. Adam returned to them and said the person was from Jack’s tour and Adam needed to secure the scene. Bernie chose to go with him rather than ride home alone in the dark. The 4 people in Jack’s tour identified the victim as Harold Berg. They claimed he “jumped”, but Adam had seen the murder as it happened! The two sets of tourists had been bickering all evening, Jack told him. But the odd thing was that no one realized Harold was pushed. Was one of them lying? If not, where had the killer come from? Why hadn’t the others seen the attack? This was an intriguing mystery which falls into my favorite category, a humorous cozy! Having such a unique partner to work with in finding clues makes things more intriguing. Grab your copy and watch as Bernie and Ruby help Adam search for clues to help find the murderer! At least this time, Bernie has an alibi for herself, having witnessed the crime with Adam.

I'm glad l stuck with this series, the first book The Guest is a Goner left us on a little cliff hanger, not a make or break one, but it is nice to see how this plays out. Also this time far from being a suspect this time Bernie is a witness and her alibi is rock solid,- she was on a moonlit ARC ride with Deputy Adam Gallagher. Don't go get any ideas Ruby, Bernies ghostly gran was life vicariously through Bernie and their fifteen for anchor.. The author Carly Winter spins a clever who done it! With seemingly no one in the frame. She also handles mental illness incredibly well, it's not done in a way that makes you feel it's been tacked on to be "woke" raher it's been built up from the previous book and is handled with sensitivity and in my experience realistically. Can Adam solve the case, will be accept the help offered to him even if it skirts legality.

Bernie and Ruby are back at it! This time they are helping the hot Deputy Adam Gallagher (her crush). He thinks his house is haunted and asks Bernie for help. While out on an ATV ride they witnessed a person falling off the cliff during a fight. Another murder/mystery to solve. Snarky Grandma Ruby meets Adams ghost. He is just as witty as she is and the laughs just keep coming. It looks like another adventure for the ghostly detectives Bernie and Ruby. Such a lovely series!
