About this ebook

On one side of the border lies the modern world: the internet, homecoming dances, cell phones. On the other side dwell the ancient monsters who spark humanity's deepest fears: dragons.

Seventeen-year-old Kay Wyatt knows she's breaking the law by rock climbing near the border, but she'd rather have an adventure than follow the rules. When the dragon Artegal unexpectedly saves her life, the rules are abruptly shattered, and a secret friendship grows between them.

But suspicion and terror are the legacy of human and dragon interactions, and the fragile truce that has maintained peace between the species is unraveling. As tensions mount and battles begin, Kay and Artegal are caught in the middle. Can their friendship change the course of a war?

In her young-adult debut, New York Times bestselling author Carrie Vaughn presents a distinctly twenty-first-century tale of myths and machines, and an alliance that crosses a seemingly unbridgeable divide.

After so many Dragon tales of hidden powers and impossible feats and strengths, it was refreshing to find a Dragon book that didn't involve killing with swords and using magic. In the story, Dragons haven't been seens for hundreds of years and were nearly forgotton by the humans until the atomic bombs of world war two shook them out of sleep. The Dragons rose from the ground angry and waged war on humans. Eventually a peace treaty was created designating certain sections of earth as Dragon territory that Humans could not enter. However, a young seventeen year old girl, Kay, is out rock climbing one day when she falls and is saved by a young Dragon, Artegal. Curiosity gets the both of them and they begin to talk and eventually become friends. But when the other Humans and Dragons learn of a mysterious Dragon and Human flying together, war breaks out and both sides want the complete destruction of the other. It's up to Kay and Artegal to show that Dragons and Humans can coexist and be friends. Obviously I enjoyed the book because I couldn't put it down. From chapter to chapter, paragraph to paragraph, I had to know what happened next. It was a great read and I cannot wait for the next book in the new series.
