A man is murdered outside a gambling club in London's West End after a journalist who had dallied to take a last drink has tried to stop a frightened girl from making a 'phone call. Piers Marlowe is one of the pen names of Leonard Reginald Gribble (1908-1985), a prolific English crime writer born in Barnstaple, Devon. In 1953 he was a founding member of the Crime Writers Association. He wrote thrillers, crime and mystery novels as well as non-fiction on criminology.
