About this ebook

New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell’s glittering Marrying the Duke series continues—Twice he has been close to the altar and still no duchess.

Will the third time be the charm? A duke can’t marry just anyone. His wife must be of good family, be fertile, be young. Struggling playwright Sarah Pettijohn is absolutely the last woman Gavin Whitridge, Duke of Baynton, would ever fall in love with.

She is an actress, born on the wrong side of the blanket, and always challenges his ducal authority. She never hesitates to tell him what she thinks.

However, there is something about her that stirs his blood . . . which makes her perfect for a bargain he has in mind: In exchange for backing her play, he wants Sarah to teach him about love.

And he, in turn, has a few things to teach her about men . . .

Gavin and Sarah have nothing in common. He thinks with his head, She leads with her heart. He has money to spare and a title to uphold. Her opinions are abundant but her pocketbook is lacking. He needs a wife, she doesn't fit the bill. Sarah is about to tackle on the hardest role she's ever played and possibly find the only place she truly belongs. A Date at the Altar reminds me why I've been a fan of Ms. Maxwell for years. Her stories are always finding new ways to enthrall and surprise. She can do light and funny, as easily as she can tackle dark and mysterious or heartwarming tales and she does so without taking away from the charm and uniqueness of her delivery.

I really cheered for Gavin. What a good man. I wanted Gavin to have a HEA. I'm glad he found it. Sarah is not a bad character but she frustrated me. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will definitely read it again.

This was a very sweet book that dealt with some darker themes. The hero was absolutely respectful, considerate, and did not belittle, and I cheered this couple on from the beginning. This is part of a series-- I have not read the other books, and while many of the characters were from the other stories I didn't feel like I was missing too much. Great read!
