These 2 books are unique from her previous series. This seems to be the 1st time Christine Feehan has kicked the more explicit sex to the curb; instead I enjoyed very much learning a tiny amount of the gambling stuff surrounded with character development. Of all of her books and series, these two are my biggest favorites. I'm feeling a bit sad she doesn't seem inclined to build a larger series with the same types of storylines and characters.

RED ON THE RIVER is another complex, detailed and informative story line often over-focusing on poker, poker play, and card combinations, as well as an exhaustive account of hiking, and mountain climbing. As per Christine Feehan’s style of writing, there is a slight paranormal aspect to the series but the author steers clear of any erotic $ex scenes or the use of strong language.

I was able to get into the story okay and the premise of the story is good, but I had questions about some of the occurrences during Vienna's stay at the hotel and things that happened to her. The story got really bogged down while the girls went on their trip. You learn tons on gambling and wilderness climbing. I flipped through several pages during that long section. I'm guessing more back story is given for the ladies for this, I'm assuming, is a series, but it caused the story to drag. There were long sections of back story and no action. I appreciate that the graphic love scenes are not there and the cursing kept at a minimum. Even if the F bomb was dropped a few times. My theory is if you have a good story, you don't need all those things. All-in-all, this is a good story, and if you enjoy CF, you'll like this book.
