Tax time was coming near. Bettany knew their grandmother did not have enough money. What could they do, their income was meager. What if they could borrow money from Lord Greymount with a promise to repay in the summer. That that being the only option, Bettany set out to visit Lord Greymount at his castle. Barely making it through the snowstorm, Bettany awakes to find herself in a bed in someplace unfamiliar. Somehow she was brought from the entrance to the inside of the castle. Determined to please her case, Bettany is finally granted a visit to Lord Greymount. Unable to leave the castle due to a great snowstorm, Bettany finds herself more intrigued with the Lord and wants to know more about him, and finds she has feelings for him. But why does he live in a great castle with so few servants, and no women? The more time she spends at the castle, the more the feelings grow and the more she wishes to learn more. What mysteries does this great castle and this Lord hold? Another wonderful fairy tale by Christine Pope. With minimal characters, it is very easy to follow and become attached to Bettany, a simple girl with a goal. The reading is light and easy. This series is one that does not need to be read in any specific order. Sit back, pick up a fairy tale and enjoy!

Fairy tales for adults!!! This is a brilliantly crafted retelling of the Beauty and the Beast legend!!! Bettany Sendris is an orphan, living with her grandmother in a tiny hamlet. Their tithe is due to the local overlord and money had run out. She undertakes a long trek to plead in person for more time to pay. She arrives at the gothic style castle just as a once in a lifetime snow storm envelopes the area. Now a reluctant guest to an even more reluctant overlord, Bettany is stranded. But there is ore going on than a snow storm. Why are there no women in the castle? Why does the man in charge seem reluctant to be alone with her? This was a great read. I have to admit that I haven't read the others on this series (soon to be rectified!!!). However I felt that it didn't slow me down in immersing myself in the world. I was soon caught up in the mystery and passion of the couple. Hugely enjoyed the entire thing and I had to read it all in one go - I could not put it down!!!! Hoping there are many more to come in this series!!

Of all the books I've read in this series so far, this is my favorite. The pacing is well done, as some of the other works seem to drag on for a bit then have a lot happen in the last few pages. But I wasn't bored at any point reading this one, and was kept guessing at when things would reach the climax.
