David Mitchell is a Scottish musicologist and biblical theologian. He is Director of Music in the Anglican Pro-Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Brussels. He first wrote Christmas Cantata in 1999, as a commission for the opening of the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh at the end of that year. The latest revision was published in summer 2019.
