About this ebook

The New York Times–bestselling, “engrossing account of the military operation that resulted in the death of Osama bin Laden” (Kirkus Reviews, starred).

On May 2, 2011, at 1:03 a.m. a satellite uplink crackled from Abbottabad, Pakistan, into the situation room of the White House in Washington, D.C.: “Geronimo, Echo, KIA.” These words, spoken by a Navy SEAL, ended Osama bin Laden’s three-decade-long career of terror.

SEAL Target Geronimo is the story of Bin Laden’s relentless hunters and how they took down the terrorist mastermind, told by Chuck Pfarrer, a former commander of SEAL Team Six and author of the bestselling Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy SEAL. After talking to members of the SEAL team involved in the raid, Pfarrer shares never-before-revealed of the historic raid and the men who planned and conducted it in an exclusive boots-on-the-ground account of what happened during each minute off the mission—both inside the building and outside.

Pfarrer takes readers inside the operations as the SEALs flew over the wall of Bin Laden’s shabby, litter-strewn compound and then penetrated deeper and deeper into the terrorist lair, telling us just what it looked, sounded, and smelled like in that sweltering Pakistani suburb. He takes us out to the courtyard to witness the near-disaster of the malfunctioning helicopter and brings us to the exact spot where the Al Qaeda leader was cowing when the bullet entered his head.

SEAL Target Geronimo is an explosive story of unparalleled valor, clockwork military precision, and deadly accuracy carried out by the most elite fighting force in the world—the US Navy’s SEAL Team Six. Denounced by the Pentagon when it was first published, SEAL Target Geronimo is back in a new edition with added information about the raid, a new afterword, and never-before-seen photos.

Praise for SEAL Target Geronimo

“The book is more than just a high-adventure black-ops thriller. It is a work of historical importance that sets the record straight.” —Neil W. McCabe, Human Events

“Pfarrer certainly had access. . . . He clearly had detailed conversations with senior officers in the SEALs’ chain of command . . . and understands the vocabulary and culture very well. . . . SEAL Target Geronimo explodes a number of media myths about the riad to kill Bin Laden.” —Richard Minter, The Daily Beast

Interesting but flawed. Generally a good read, as long as you remain skeptical and independently verify the author's assertions. The book is filled with many mistakes, so minor, some major. Ammunition (M855 is 5.56x45 and doesn't fit in a PSG-1, besides, would any sniper would use M855 on targets behind porthole glass?), rifles (PSG-2, is there even such a rifle? Maybe he's confused it with the PSG-1 in 7.62x51, which would be suitable for a lifeboat glass scenario), the casualties of the terrible Beirut Embassy bombing (17 Americans killed - not 60, and 64 total killed), and many, many more. All facts that could have been easily checked. I'm not talking about the author obscuring sources and methods, doing that's a given for sensitive material. These are public, well known facts. It makes one wonder what else is wrong, like a skewed Hollywood screenplay of an event, when everything is slightly out of whack. Perhaps the author would have us believe his book is part of a disinformation campaign. If so, he succeeded; it is full of disinformation. The government denies much of the author's version of certain events, which may or may not bolster his credibility, depending which side of the fence you're sitting on. The book reads more like a Dick Marcinko novel than the meticulously researched history the author claims. Cursory editing and research would have cought dozens of factual errors. The author's obvious dislike of Marcinko comes through loud and clear, yet he's emulated the Rogue Warrior's fictional writing.

The book was a good read, but the inconsistencies in the this narrative with other well known public facts make this a well written fiction that weaves seamlessly into today's headlines. Fictionalized, but interesting story!

Interesting book. Most of it is about the becoming a SEAL and the history of Osama bin Laden, however.
