About this ebook

A fake marriage for these enemies turned lovers will be tested and only trust can save them.

Irish immigrant Edward O’Neal landed in America as a little boy with the promise of a better life but found prejudice and poverty. Poverty that took his entire large family from him. He’s spent the last twenty years hiding his heritage and building his fortune so he’d never go hungry again. But when he discovers that his partner ran away with a prostitute to escape his gambling debts and his empire is crumbling, the last ace in his pocket is his mail-order bride -- a woman of pure breeding, with a political family name, high class, and huge dowry.

Cora McKinnie managed to live through the Civil War long enough to see her parents, brothers, and fiancé die and to send her six sisters away to wed. Alone, she makes the arduous journey to San Francisco to marry and start her own loving family. Dreams sour when she discovers her betrothed is dead and his jilted, angry partner despises her for being Irish and the only woman available to marry.

To recover his fortune, Edward must pull off the event of the year with little funds. A nearly impossible task without the help of the distracting, beautiful, thrifty Irish woman with a huge heart.

This book written in a very elementary style became annoying after the fitst chapter. Once I start a book I finish it ,l but I was very tempted to stop reading. I could not see this capturing teenage readers or young adults. The promise the plot description alluded to never delivered The characters with the exception of Ghost and the possibility that Mrs. Miller was a closet alcoholic were interesting but not developed.

Dramatic, dangerous, and oh so good. Cora did expect what happen when she reached California, nor did she expect the challenges she now faced. Ed was the biggest road block he was man who had suffer so much loss that he pretty much froze his heart. There are moments of deep emotional feelings, doubts and love. It was written very well. This whole series has been excellent and all the books really are must reads. My only question was what about Ed’s sister? The event had the end had me running to Google because I had a date in mind much later than what I believed this book was set in and yes the author was right on. High praise for this book and whole collection I highly recommend them all. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

I wouldn’t have had Cora courage to travel all that way to marry a man she’d never met only to discover that man was gone and his partner didn’t want to marry her instead. Ed had banked on his new bride’s dowry to save him, but she turned around and didn’t arrive. Cora reminds him of his heritage but she’s bold with a risky plan to save them both. I loved she found work for the homeless because she knew what it was like to be in their situation. Mr. Grous was a nasty character and even before his past was revealed I felt no woman should be alone with him never mind married to him. There’s plenty of suspense as Cora and Ed fake it till they get investors while trying to save themselves from Mr. Grous’s evil plans.
