Eseul lui Ion Vartic e construit deopotriva pe opera lui Cioran si pe scrisorile din tinerete ale acestuia descoperite după 1989 – mai ales 12 scrisori catre Bucur Tincu din 1930-1933 –, pe cartile preferate inca din adolescentă si pe intilnirile autorului cu un Cioran aflat la virsta senectutii, in Paris, la inceputul anilor 1990. Emil Cioran al lui Ion Vartic este naiv si sentimental prin nostalgia locurilor natale si a Sibiului sau în relatia cu femeile (un intreg capitol e dedicat relatiei cu Sorana Topa), dar si, de multe ori, in existenta lui pariziana “de mansarda", din rue de l’Odeon. Nu lipsesc interesante comparatii cu colegii de generatie – Eliade, Ionesco etc.
