About this ebook

Certain she will never wed for love, sworn to let no man possess her for her beauty alone, Jacqueline de Crevy has vowed to become a bride of God. But en route to the convent of Inveresbeinn, her party is ambushed by a knight, who snatches Jacqueline from her saddle and spirits her away with him.

He is Angus MacGillivray—not the blackhearted ravisher she fears but a valiant man of honour who has returned to Scotland seeking justice…and revenge. Angus has come home from the Crusades to find his family murdered and his birthright seized. Sworn to reclaim his rightful lands, he has kidnapped the stepdaughter of Duncan, chieftain of Clan MacQuarrie—Angus's avowed enemy.

But his lovely captive refuses to be the chattel—or the ransom—of any man…until Jacqueline senses the yearning heart beneath Angus's embittered facade. In spite of himself, Angus has let this defiant beauty touch his very soul. And as desire flames between them, a lady fair and her battle-scarred knight will fight for a love that could banish all the sorrows of the past...

A lovely romance set in 12th c Scotland has a knight returning from the Crusades after capture and torture by the Saracens to find his home confiscated by the local priest and all his family dead. Mistaken identity leads him to kidnap a young woman on her way to join a convent. She is his HEA, of course, so they have interesting adventures, many of which arise from failure to communicate before winning his birthright, falling in love, or tying up the various story strands whatever its your ending. Lovely book with immensely appealing characters, tight storyline, intriguing plot and solid control of language. I loved the first book of this series and this is a worthy successor. you'll laugh, you'll cry but in the end, you'll fall in love with Esmeralde and Duncan's second daughter Jacqueline.

Oh what a magical tale! I couldn't stop turning the pages. I loved Jacqueline. She was a delightful character, full of life, feisty, caring and determined. Angus was a tortured soul with many demons to conquer. I loved their chemistry and how their feelings for one another slowly developed. Although he was embittered and angry upon his return from the crusades, he was an honourable knight with a gentle heart and treated Jaqueline with kindness and respect. Add a great adventure and you have the perfect story.

This was a well written book I could not put down. The HEA was not in question but the journey there left this reader satisfied to have found a story created by such a master with words. It was complex, with both light and dark elements well woven into each other, curiosities not immediately revealed which kept my interest to the last page. I loved this book as much as any other I have read by this author in the past and felt so moved I had to leave praise!
